Replacing a mother board on a laptop, the reason could be that you want to upgrade the mother board of your laptop to a better and more efficient one or that it is bad and cannot be fixed. The procedure of replacing the mother board may take up to two or three hours depending on your expertise and experience with how to disassemble electronics devices.


Before starting the procedure, it is necessary you make sure that the new mother board is suitable with your laptop and that you have the right tools to bring out the procedure. If you have doubt about the compatibility your laptop with a particular type of mother board, please refer to the mother board manual or go to the manufacturer's website. Things that you need to bring out the procedure are a set of screw driver and a suitable mother board.

Step 1

Turn off your laptop, remove it from power source and convert laptop upside down. Open up battery power and slide it out from laptop.

Step 2

Remove screws obtaining the heat sink and CPU protect, and then eliminate the cover. Now eliminate the  screws  obtaining a metal segment that is over the CPU  heat  sink. Take away the segment having the  heat  sink and lift up the warm sink from the CPU. If you desire to substitute or change the CPU, you can do it right away. Just unlock the CPU outlet by turning the attach into an open position and properly lift up the CPU from the outlet on the motherboard.

Step 3

Remove the screws having the storage segments protect and then eliminate the cover. To eliminate the storage component, spread the latches on both factors of the component until it pops up at an angle of about 35 degrees. After releasing the storage component hold the storage component from its factors and take out from the outlet. Repeat the same procedure for the second stick, if there are two storage segments.

Step 4

Remove the screws obtaining the device card. Carefully lift up the device and detach the wire connected to it.

Step 5

Remove the attach having the DVD drive and take the DVD drive from laptop.

Step 6

Remove the screws obtaining the hard disk cover and take the hard disk to detach it from the mother board before eliminating it from laptop.

Step 7

Now remove all the screws at the back of laptop, make sure that no attach is left.

Step 8

Turn the laptop over and start removing the laptop key pad. You can use a flat head screw driver for this procedure. After you have successfully disengaged all the plastic latches, lift up the laptop key pad and remove the laptop key pad bezel. Then convert the laptop key pad over and place it so that you can access the plug on the mother board. Before you take the wire and remove the laptop key pad, unlock the plug by moving the lock away from the platform, after the plug is open, take the wire and remove the laptop key pad.

Step 9

Disconnect the cables connecting laptop sound system to the mother board. Take away the screws obtaining laptop sound system and remove the sound system.

Step 10

Remove laptop hand rest with the touch pad. Start by removing the screws obtaining the hand rest, detach the touch pad wire from the mother board.

Step 11

Remove the screws having laptop front or top cover to laptop boards, with some care take the video wire plug out from the mother board. Lift laptop cover or display assembly and remove it from laptop base.

Step 12

Remove the screws obtaining laptop fan and remove the fan wire from the mother board. Lift laptop power jack from the base. Disconnect laptop CMOS battery power wire.

Step 13

After all these steps have been done, properly lift up the mother board and remove the mother board from laptop base. Now you can replace the mother board and assemble it back.
